How to Help Your Library
There is no donation too large or too small in support of the library!
Young children, mothers, fathers, seniors, teens: all depend on their library for so much!
As our community continues to grow there is an increasing demand for books that open new worlds of learning for children, audio books for the physically challenged and reading materials that keep pace with the ever changing needs of adults.
As a library supporter, your financial donations will help purchase much needed books, learning materials, publications and services which improve the lives of so many. It is vital that the Library stay current with today’s fast paced and ever changing world of information. While the cost of materials – books, books on tapes, CD’s, DVD’s, Books on CD, Playaways and large print books continues to rise, our budget does not. That’s why funding for library collections is so important.
Your generous donation will help buy much needed new books and materials for adults and children.
Materials Collection
You may choose to direct your donation to:
- where it’s needed most
- new books, CD’s, Playaways or DVD’s
- special needs materials such as large print books or books on CD
- children’s books, materials, or programs
- sponsor a specialized collection, such as a selection of parenting or career books
- purchase a magazine subscription
- equipment, furnishings
- foundation or capital improvement fund
Memorials
The donation of funds for a book or other item in the memory of a loved one can be a lasting memorial that also serves the community. Materials purchased with donations have a bookplate that lists the name of the memorialized and the donor.
Endowment Fund
The Library is interested in working with you to establish an endowment fund. An endowment fund can provide a long-term approach for improving library services to the citizens of Matteson through the cumulative growth of donations over time. The Fund could be set up so that the Library can accept a gift, devise or bequest of money or property.
Birthday Books
A donation of $10 in a child’s name will buy a children’s book for the Library collection. The names of the donor and the child will be included on a bookplate in the front of the book.
In its selections the Library will consider the age and interests of the child. We will also consider requests for specific titles although choice is sometimes limited by availability and price. Donors will be building the library collection as well as giving a unique experience to a child who will be able to check out a book with his or her own name inside.
Bequests, Planned Giving and Living Trusts
A bequest in your will or living trust is an uncomplicated way to help the Library.
A bequest may take several forms. It can be a specific sum, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder of your estate after expenses and gifts to loved ones. Bequests can include cash, securities, real estate, houses, and personal property.
Living trusts are a popular choice because the terms of a living trust, unlike a will, can be put into effect immediately upon your death, bypassing probate and keeping the terms private.
Changes in tax law have made it more advantageous to explore these options for charitable giving. Discuss these options with your professional tax advisor if you wish to take advantage of them and help the Library at the same time.
Corporate Matching Gift Program
Please visit your personnel or benefits office for matching gift forms and additional information. Your company may have a matching gift program that could double or even triple the amount of your contribution.
